Pakruojis Manor Distillery, Lithuania
Pakruojis Manor Distillery is a herbal liquor brand from Lithuanian who enthusiastically applies a variety of local spices and herbs to produce very fine spirits. Located in the Pakruojis Manor in northern Lithuania, this distillery, steeped in a long history, embodies both traditional and innovative characteristics.
Pakruojis Manor’s history, dating back to the 16th century. During the wars and changing owners, it has seen many transitions of ownership. The von Rop family, who governed the estate for the longest period, introduced Western architectural aesthetics during their tenure, along with excellent brewing and distillation techniques.
Pakruojis Manor Distillery was initially founded by the esteemed pharmacist Knut team and developed high-quality drinks in the early 16th century. After the war and in the end of 2018, after a long period of dormancy, a new team breathed new life into the distillery. The current founder boasts the largest whiskey collection bar in all of Lithuania. They utilized their experience and expertise from Whisky to carefully craft the unique delicate taste and flavor variations of herbal liquor, which stand out amidst the robust flavors of Eastern Europe.
Drawing inspiration from local traditions, they gather premium ingredients from the surrounding forests and meadows. Rare plants such as thyme, saffron, and horseradish, uncommon in liquor brewing, are extensively used in their artisanal products. They also exhibit creativity in packaging and content, rejuvenating each base liquor!
The “Honey, Saffron, and Thyme Liquor” which earned a Silver Award with a score of 89 in the USA Spirit Rating, uses local honey, instead of can sugar, combining the freshness of herbs with the elegance of nectar honey, presenting a particularly delicate and enduring taste. The “Kenya Cold Brew Coffee Liquor,” awarded a Gold Award with a score of 92 in the USA Spirit Rating, hand-picks the finest Kenyan coffee beans. Combining unrefined cane sugar with cold brew technology enhances the rich creamy texture with the fruity flavor of fresh coffee beans, resembling black currant dropping into rich coffee cocoa ice cream, surprising both in aroma and taste. The “Geronimo London Dry Gin” is distinct from regular gin, blending complementary flavors of zesty orange peel, fresh chamomile, cool mint, and juniper, enveloping a fragrant gin within a spicy atmosphere.
Crafting high-quality herbal liquors is time-consuming and labor-intensive, with spices and herbs requiring at least three months to mature for optimal quality. Their unique brewing techniques not only yield deliciousness and renown but also make them difficult to categorize easily. The “Geronimor London Dry Gin – Cat Lover” is the first London dry gin crafted by Pakruojis Manor Distillery. Unlike typical gins, they discovered the complementary flavors of zesty orange peel, fresh chamomile, cool mint, and juniper through multiple experiments, creating a gin with fragrant notes wrapped in a spicy aroma. It was this unique aromatic gin that earned the “Best Country Winner” title at the 2023 World Gin Awards held in London!
This magical concoction is like a mischievous cat, playfully clutching onto the bottle, wrapped in an aura of herbs. The design of this playful cat even landed Geronimo Gin in the Top 50 of the Package of the World World Packaging Design Awards!
